Tell Colorado's New Leaders to End Wolf Reintroduction in 2027

Colorado’s newly elected lawmakers and Governor-elect Phil Weiser are setting their priorities for 2027. Now is the time to tell them where you stand. Ask the Colorado General Assembly to pass a bill ending state-sponsored gray wolf imports and releases by the close of the 2027 legislative session. Ask Governor-elect Weiser to make that bill a priority and sign it into law.

Colorado voters approved Proposition 114 in 2020. The law directed the state to begin reintroducing gray wolves and recognized that restoration must address conflicts with farmers and ranchers. We believe Colorado can honor that responsibility by ending further releases and focusing on managing the wolves already here.

For ranching families, a wolf encounter can mean a dead calf, an injured animal, or another night spent checking a herd. Colorado should put its resources into preventing those losses, responding quickly when they occur, and paying verified claims promptly. A 2027 bill should end further imports and releases for reintroduction while preserving livestock compensation, conflict prevention, and responsible management of wolves already in Colorado.

Contact your lawmakers and Governor-elect Weiser

  1. Call or email your state representative and state senator. Use your home address to find both districts. If your district just elected a new lawmaker and the directory still lists the outgoing member, look up the incoming lawmaker’s public campaign contact and reach out now. Ask whether they will sponsor or vote for a bill to end further reintroductions. Find My Legislator

  2. Contact Governor-elect Phil Weiser. Ask him to include ending further wolf releases in his 2027 legislative agenda and commit to signing a bill. You can reach his team at teamphil@philforcolorado.com, the public campaign email listed by Boulder County.

  3. Ask for a response and follow up when the session begins. If you have firsthand experience with livestock losses, prevention costs, or the work of protecting a herd, share it in a few sentences. Tell your lawmakers where you live so they know they’re hearing from a constituent.

A message you can send today

I live in [town or county], and I’m asking you to help end Colorado’s gray wolf reintroduction program by the close of the 2027 legislative session. Please support legislation that ends further state-sponsored imports and releases while preserving livestock compensation, conflict prevention, and responsible management of the wolves already here. Will you support a bill to accomplish this in 2027? I’d appreciate a direct response.

Whether you live on the Western Slope, on the Front Range, or on the Eastern Plains, your state legislators need to hear from you. Make the call or send the email this week, while Colorado’s new leaders are deciding what to take up in 2027.
